After our successful redesign of the Writers’ Centre Norwich website, we were invited back to help bring their International Literature Showcase online. With only five weeks in which to design, develop and make the site live, we had to get moving.
The ILS site was to be the go-to resource for international literature professionals to discover selected UK writers and literary organisations. The site would create a large network that would increase opportunities to work both internationally and digitally. And professionals could apply to become delegates, in order to access events and participate in networking forums around the ‘Connections’ programme.
In order to allow users to create their own literary network, we made it easy to find writers, organisations and items from the ‘Connections’ programme by displaying them in a random order, giving each one equal prominence. This was supported with a bespoke, site wide search function. And to allow delegates to be involved in ILS discussions and debates, we integrated Slack into the site.
Blood, sweat and coffee ensured that we had the site live by nine a.m. ready for it’s online festival week mid-October. The site was a great success, immediately attracting many visitors, email subscribers and member delegates who signed up for the Slack Channel.
The Writers’ Centre Norwich were happy with the finished site and impressed by how quickly we turned it around. It gave us an enormous feeling of satisfaction too, plus extra work, as we’ve since been commissioned to add further enhancements to the site, including a Members area.
